Long oval silver pendant locket, about 1 3/4” by ¾ “. Bail about 1/3,” in addition to the pendant length. Stamped “925” on inside of locket; otherwise unmarked. Finely engraved on both sides of locket with stylized swirling vine, leaf and flower designs with crosshatching on the flowers. Punch-incised double scalloped border around the outside of the locket on both sides; engraved border of lines similar to the markings on the stylized leaves outside the scalloped border on both sides. Bail is shaped like an inverted isosceles triangle on both sides; engraved horizontal lines go across the base of the triangle and a group of vertical lines accent the sides of the triangle on both sides. Within the locket, a 1/8” cylinder of silver fits into a small hole to hold the locket closed, and a matte but still bright brushed-silver finish lines the two halves of the locket. Slight irregularities in the engraving make it seem likely that it was done by hand; the design of the piece as a whole is characteristic of the late 19th or early 20th century.
