CARE & SCRATCH REPAIR (see 5 photos) Serpentine is a soft stone and minor surface scratches can occur from handling over time. Almost anyone can "repair" them in just a few minutes using fine grit sand paper, wax polish, and a soft cloth to buff the wax. The photos show my 4 minute "repair" of a deep scratch with a key, which is more drastic than what is likely to occur unless you drop or hit the piece against something.. First, I used 600 grit, then 1000, then 3000 wet/dry sandpaper found in any hardware store. (some sculptors report using 300 - 600 grit). Use circular motion while "sanding" and damp wipe between grit to observe progress. After the 3000 grit, I used Carnauba wax and buffed it with part of an old (clean) terrycloth towel. Add heat from a hairdryer or heat gun or leave it in the sun to let it warm up before waxing. Beeswax or clear shoe polish was also recommended by artists in videos found on the web. We try to show flaws or faults but You Must examine photos closely as they are a critical part of the description. Make your decision using your own judgment.
