PLACING A BID. When you click on the BID Button, you have 3 options. #1 is to select the amount shown in the Bid Box and Confirm. #2 is to enter a higher amount as a Maximum Bid and Confirm. #3, is to enter a higher amount as a Regular Bid and Confirm.
When placing a Max Bid, always consider the next level where bid increments increase.

Let's say bids are $1.00 increments to $25 and then they increase by $2.50 up to $50 where they increase by $5.00. You're willing to pay around $50 but don't want to pay $60.

Say you are in at $10 with your Max Bid of $55.00. Someone puts in a bid of $25, now you are in at $27.50. Then they bid $32.50 but your bid escalates to $35 and etc up to your Max Bid of $55. If someone else places a Max Bid of $55 after you did, then you are in at $55 because you were there first. If someone else places a higher bid, you are out.

STRATEGY. Let's say the asking bid is $10 but you would gladly pay $90 for it. To discourage other bidders, one strategy is to bid a Higher Amount as a Regular Bid bid right away to keep competitors out of the running.

BID INCREMENTS; Always consider the next level where bid increments increase. Starting at $50 bids increase by $5 so you place a $55 bid by selecting Regular Bid. Now the current bid is $55 asking $60. You may just scare off the competition rather than having them start a vendetta by chasing you up $1 at a time and allowing them to compete against you.

You may just beat that psychological barrier and win the bid at your chosen price.
